Used Sports Cars: top 4 models to consider
There are many used sports cars for sale in the UK. If you are looking for a used sports car that has both superb performance, a good buy in terms of value for money and is also something of a head turner, then four models that you should consider are the BMW Z4, the Porsche Boxster, the Mercedes SLK and the Audi TT. Although all of those cars are quite expensive when new, three, four or even five year old models can be found with quite low mileage and at a fraction of the new car price.

In terms of raw performance and control, it is likely that the Boxster will come out on top though the Z4 is only slightly behind. Both are very precise in their handling, though the Boxster is more so. Both the Audi TT and the Mercedes SLK are very good but they lack that absolute precision.

In terms of economy the Z4 is the winner, particularly if you go for the entry model which is the 2.0 litre Z4i. Although this might seem a little small for such a car, its advanced valve technology means that it delivers 150 bhp yet has an average fuel consumption of 38.5 mpg.

When it comes to a beauty competition, the winner will very much depend on the eye of the beholder. The traditional good looks of the Mercedes SLK take some beating; the Boxster looks great but not very beautiful; the Audi TT has a ‘Marmite’ appearance, in other words you either love or hate its somewhat stubby appearance; and much the same can be said for the chiselled style of the Z4, though arguably it is the sportiest looking car.

If comfort is the most important factor for you then you are likely to go for the Mercedes SLK and possibly the Audi TT. The Z4 is certainly the least comfortable particularly in sports trim but it is a car that has been designed for its handling ability rather than it ride.

All of these cars are excellent buys as used sports cars and, whichever one of them you choose, you are likely to be very happy with your decision.
